First ever photograph of light as a particle and a wave
Originally shared by SciConcilium First ever photograph of light as a particle and a wave Photographing light to prove its wave / particle duality behavior is an elusive subject due to the quantum mechanics laws. A research team led by Fabrizio Carbone at EPFL in Switzerland developed a new method to photograph light using electrons. Researchers were able to photograph light behaving like a particle and wave at the same time. It was possible to see when electrons pass close to the light wave and collide with the photons. That event shows light on the nanowire behaves as a particle. Fabrizion Carbone was excited because it was the first time anyone could film quantum mechanics directly. Furthermore, the ability to image and control quantum phenomena at a nanometer scale opens a new route towards quantum computing. Source: EurekAlert!
