It sorta looks like Amazon has just launched a social network. Check out my profile: http://amzn.to/nVnOAw You can show what you're reading, what you hope to read, what you've stopped reading (nice one!). You can follow people, highlight bits via Kindle and share what you've highlighted. It doesn't do a whole lot yet, but if they actually let users do more (and don't tie it so closely to the Kindle), then I'd actually use it as a place to talk about books.
I'd like to be able to write & share reviews in a more straightforward fashion. Create "lists" of books for certain topics: creativity, autobiography, investing, Google, etc. Even a free-form Google+ like share box could be cool, because then you could just talk about books to an audience that (presumably) would care. (The quality of discussion would be higher when you've got an audience of self-selected book readers.) Follow me there if you're interested, and I'll start sharing some of the books that were valuable to me.

I think that Google+ will dominate everything as soon as Google decides to integrate products such as Google Books, Google Music, Google Reader, Google Groups into Google+.
