Apple has begun mass-producing the iPad Mini - WSJ.

The Wall Street Journal has reported that mass production of the iPad Mini (or whatever it will be called) has begun. 

The tablet will have a 7.85-inch screen, according to the paper's sources.

I wrote in February why Apple is doing this. In a nutshell, all the money being made by Apple's competitors are for phones significantly larger than the iPhone and for tablets significantly smaller than the iPad. So Apple is going to drop a device right in the middle to take away that competitive sweet spot.
