A few things I have learned while running around the city of Atlanta.
Being born and raised in Brooklyn USA, I am no stranger to wild nights in the city, scampering around and finding interesting things like tucked away nooks and crannies that wow tourist and native alike. This sort of lifestyle has served me well in any city I have lived in and Atlanta is no exception.
There is often a late night my friends and I (but seriously...most are solo missions...sometimes its just easier that way) are under some causeway checking out hidden gems of street art masterpieces, in a train yard or another or even in a tunnel that connects an abandoned bank to a chop shop (crazy story). Sometimes there is video, mostly photos, but always great stories and memories.
And then there came Ingress. It has not only help me find kindred urban explorers that are out no matter what... but it has made me go from kind-of-liking (tolerating) Atlanta to really enjoying it. Every night I play.. some new facet of the city is found. A new potential camera angle discovered.
All I can say is this game is genius! More and more, friends and associates that normally wouldn't brave 0ºC temps are now willing to.
I have also experience the following, that I would never plan on doing until Ingress:
+Exploring a graveyard at night
+Commenting how cool Atlanta is
+Enjoying office building coffee shops (it was just a way to get close to a portal..but the espresso was damn good!)
+Finally went to the Carter Center
+Planning to go to cities just to plant and link some portals
+Going to the Underground at night
+Mapping out locations that have public/street accessible outlets to charge phones
The rest of the crazy stuff... is well...expected out of me anyway. But now I am happy that more people are out, scaling walls, barbwire fences (well maybe not that ;) ) and walking around learned and relearning there city, town and region.
This game is genius.
