Sadly I have seen communities that start up and gather a whole host of members, and then the owner kind of disappears, new requests to join are ignored and the owner is never there to engage with the community. If you start a community it is really important that you keep it organised, that you, the owner respond to join requests and that you pop in to talk to your members, comment on their posts and engage with them regularly. Not only is this a great way to build your own online visibility and to showcase who you are and what you do, but it is also the way to help others to learn more and be more too.
